The highly anticipated NVIDIA RTX 40 series of graphics cards has finally been announced, with three models being released: the RTX 4090, the RTX 4080 16GB and the RTX 4080 12GB. Performance
RTX 40 series graphics cards based on Ada Lovelace new architecture design, TSMC 4nm manufacturing process, GPU streaming processor with up to 83TFLOPS shader capability, throughput is twice that of the previous generation of products.
The third-generation RT Cores achieved 191 TFLOPS, 2.8 times that of its predecessor. The fourth generation of Tensor Cores is five times faster than its predecessor.
Based on the new architecture of DLSS 3 technology is even more amazing. A PC with it performs up to four times better than a PC without it when running games.
The NVIDIA RTX 4090 features 760 transistors, 16,384 stream processors, and 24GB of video memory from Micron GDDRX. Compared with RTX 3090Ti, the performance can reach up to 4 times as much.
The 16GB version of the RTX 4080 has 9,728 streaming processors and 16GB of Micron GDDRX video memory. The game performance can reach twice that of the RTX 3080 Ti.
The NVIDIA RTX 4080 12GB version has 7680 stream processors, 12GB video memory capacity, and only 192bit width, but the performance is also better than the previous generation flagship RTX 3090Ti.
Power Dissipation
The official TGP power consumption is RTX 4090=450W, RTX 4080 16GB version =340W, RTX 4080 12GB version =285W. The official recommended power supply is 850W, 750W, and 650W.
Of course graphics cards produced by designated manufactures are also coming out. For example, the Zotac RTX4090 AMP EXTREME AIRO is rated at 450W, with a 10% increase to 500W, which is basically the same as the RTX 3090Ti. Sautey’s suggestion is to use more than 1000 watts of power. That’s much more reasonable than that mentioned above.
It is worth mentioning that from the RTX 3090Ti graphics card, the graphics card power interface is changed to the new PCI5.0 16pin(12+4Pin). 40 series graphics cards will fully use this new interface. It is not compatible with the old power supply. The solution is to provide a 4*8pin to 16pin power cord or a 3*8pin to 16pin power cord.
Considering the overall power consumption of the group RTX 40 series platform will not be low, 1000W power supply basically becomes standard configuration, so in addition to investment in graphics cards, power will also cost a lot.
