While many people dream about having pristine kitchen counters, the reality is that most of us have some dishes or cooking utensils on our counters at all times. That’s why it’s so important to keep your kitchen counter organized as much as possible, so you can quickly find what you need and feel good about your kitchen’s appearance at the same time. It’s time to get suitable kitchen counter organization!
Tips to keep kitchen more organized
1) Get an organizer
If you’re struggling with too many things on the counter, a simple solution is to get a kitchen organizer. These organizers come in many shapes and sizes and can be placed anywhere on the counter or cabinet. They also come with multiple compartments, so they’re perfect for corralling all of your pots, pans, spices and utensils while keeping them within arm’s reach.
Another option is to use a tray as an organizing tool. Place it right below your stove and fill it up with frequently used items like salt, pepper, oil and other condiments that need to be kept close by when cooking. That way, when you go into the kitchen each morning you’ll have everything that you need at your fingertips.
2) Remove what you don’t need
If you notice that you have a lot of items on your counter, remove the ones that are not being used. Doing this might make it easier for the ones that are being used. It will also make it easier when you need something, because everything is out and visible.
The other thing I do is put what I use most on the top row so that I can grab them without moving anything else around.
3) Put everything back where it belongs
- Take everything off of the counter and put it back where it belongs in the cupboard or on a shelf.
- Put all spices, oils, and other cooking ingredients into jars or containers with labels so that they are easily accessible and you will know what is inside each jar.
- Place pots, pans and utensils within reach of the stovetop but out of the way of potential spills onto the counter space next to your sink.
- Organize your silverware by placing knives on one side of the drawer and forks, spoons and spatulas on the other side so that when opening the drawer you will know which piece goes in which slot. If necessary use two slots for knives to prevent blades from touching if sharpening them is not a priority.
- Place measuring cups and spoons together, as well as whisks next to the stovetop instead of taking up space elsewhere.
4) Store spices correctly
Some people like to store their spices in the drawer, but I recommend storing them on the counter. If you don’t have a lot of space, try using little containers that can be stacked. One thing I do is label each container with a piece of masking tape and a sharpie so it’s easier to find what you need when cooking. It’s also helpful to organize by type of food: soups, pasta sauces and so on. At the same time, it doesn’t take much time or space!
